Five musicians of European, Chinese and American backgrounds have come together to present a new sonic experience.

Mesmerizing interpretations of ancient Chinese poetry from Li Bai, Wang Wei and Meng Hao Ran as well as American poets, E. E. Cummings and Langston Hughes to new renditions of John Coltrane songs “India“ and “After the Rain“ to jazz classics such as “Summertime“ and original songs are some of the highlights of their repertoire.

A cosmos of music, at times familiar and sometimes unexpected, emerged from this unusual combination of the gu qin (an ancient 3000 year old Chinese zither), the piano, the percussion, and the two voices (male and female) singing in English, Chinese and wordlessly.

Through the support of the Swiss Arts Foundation, Pro Helvetia’s “Swiss Chinese Cultural Explorations“ program, the band toured China (Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Qingdao, Guangzhou and Hong Kong) in 2009. In fall 2010, the band performed throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein as participants of the “Culturescapes Festival.“ Besides performing, the group also presented educational workshops about their cross-cultural musical encounter at the jazz schools in Lucerne, Basel, and at the Conservatory in Winterthur.

The group released a CD “The Flow of Things“ on the Swiss label altrisuoni in 2010.

In October 2012 the formation toured again in China.
